Speaking of Jung

October 2026

Episodes

Episode 164: Individuation–East and West ~ Sept. 2, 2026 ~ In the first of our two September 2026 editions we announced the launch of the new journal, Individuation–East and West. Joining us were founding editor Murray Stein, Ph.D., from Zürich, and editor-in-chief Leslie Stein, J.D., from Sydney, both of whom are practicing Jungian psychoanalysts who have previously appeared on Speaking of Jung.

The aim of the new journal is to explore and advance the processes of psychological transformation, which relies on the organizing structure of the Self, by creating a dialogue between East and West on the theme of individuation. Submissions are welcome from Jungian analysts and other scholars to orient to this process within different cultures to broaden the nature of the concept of individuation.

Episode 165: Yvonne Smith-Tarnas ~ Sept. 20, 2026 ~ Dr. Smith-Tarnas is a practicing Jungian psychoanalyst, astrologer, and Marriage & Family Therapist in Larkspur, California. She is a clinical supervisor and instructor for the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco where she lectures on psychology and astrology. Her publications include “Synchronicity, Intentionality, Archetypal Meaning in Therapy” and “Destined Meetings and the Healing Force of Relationships.”

Earlier this month I attended Dr. Smith-Tarnas’ presentation, “Lost in the Wilderness and Becoming a Self” at the United Astrology Conference in Chicago. She later joined me on Speaking of Jung to discuss her work.

October 2026: Laurence Hillman, Ph.D., is an archetypal astrologer and son of the late Jungian psychoanalyst James Hillman. Born in Zürich, Laurence has been immersed in archetypes for 48 years, specializing in archetypal coaching and consulting for leaders and organizations. Co-creator of Archetypes at Work™, he is a leading voice in archetypal astrology and author of Planets in Play. He studied architecture at ETH Zürich, received an MBA from Olin Business School, and a Ph.D. in Transformative Leadership with the dissertation, “Reading the Yin Function in Male CEOs: Exploring the Efficacy of Archetypal Astrology.”

Earlier this month I attended Dr. Hillman’s presentation, “Astrology and AI: Embracing Uranus Without Losing Your Soul,” at the United Astrology Conference in Chicago. He will join me on October 14th to discuss his work.

Character: A Novel

by Leslie Stein, J.D. (Ep. 113, 143, 164)

Chiron Publications, November 2026

Is it even possible to have character? Can we overcome the dark soundings in our soul, give up clinging to greed, power, and position? Derek’s twisted New York soul is reborn into Arel in Axum, Ethiopia, a short walk to the church that contains the Ark of the Covenant, wherein lies the Ten Commandments. He is one who carries all good and evil, as we all do, and with his devout Hindu wife, Sanvi, who worships the divine feminine, learn what it takes to be what Carl Jung describes as the “four-square” person of character, that which is the true completion of a life.

This is Leslie Stein’s third and final novel in a trilogy exploring the journey of what is required to be individuated, finally complete, whole, one’s own person.
