The Unconscious

Do you remember the line, “It’s the economy, stupid.” from Bill Clinton’s 1992 US presidential campaign? Well, lately I find myself saying under my breath, “It’s the unconscious, stupid.” (But let’s replace “stupid” with “silly.” It’s such a great word. My grandmother used to call me a “silly goose.”) So, it’s the unconscious, silly!

For those interested in the Archives of the Impossible conference I attended at Rice University in April – “The UFO and the Impossible” – most of the talks have been uploaded to the Rice Humanities channel on YouTube. Here is a link to the playlist.

When I first became interested in Jung, I was fortunate to live in an area with a very active Jungian community. The C.G. Jung Association of Central Ohio held group activities and monthly programs, flew in guest speakers (mostly Jungian analysts), and housed a library and an art gallery. I even worked there as a volunteer for a while. It was a tremendous resource during my years in Ohio and introduced me to the work of many Jungian analysts, some of whom went on to appear with me on Speaking of Jung. So I’d like to give a shoutout to The C.G. Jung Society of Queensland in Australia for providing their region with access to all things Jungian. I’m very glad to know these societies exist in many parts of the world.

While we were on hiatus last year, Episode 13 guest Deldon Anne McNeely, Ph.D. passed away. “Del,” as she was known, was one of the co-founders of the New Orleans Jungian Seminar, a training program of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. I’ve corresponded with several people about Del’s passing but was unable to find an official obituary. May she rest in peace.
