Ep. 156: Gita Dorothy Morena, Ph.D.

Jungian psychoanalyst and sandplay practitioner Gita Dorothy Morena, Ph.D., joined us from Los Angeles to discuss her great-grandfather L. Frank Baum’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, from a Jungian perspective. She said it’s the “quintessential American fairy tale.” We also delved into her own book, The Wisdom of Oz: Reflections of a Jungian Sandplay Therapist, originally published in in 1998 by Inner Connections.

Ep. 157: Susan E. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Jungian psychoanalyst and clinical psychologist Susan E. Schwartz, Ph.D., returned to the podcast to discuss her latest book, An Analytical Exploration of Love and Narcissism: The Tragedy of Isolation and Intimacy, published last year by Routledge. Dr. Schwartz contends that while narcissism can prevent connection, it also holds the possibility of connection to Self.

April 2026: Morgan Stebbins, D.Min.

Morgan Stebbins is a Jungian psychoanalyst, supervising analyst, and former Director of Training at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association in New York City. He maintains a private practice in Cold Spring, New York, where he also has a sand tray practice and is available online. His first book, A Jungian Approach to Transforming Compulsion: A Clinical and Symbolic Guide to OCD, drops today, April 1st, by Routledge Mental Health.

May 2026: Murray Stein, Ph.D.

A companion edition to Murray Stein’s wildly popular book, Jung’s Map of the Soul: An Introduction (Open Court, 1998) will be released on May 18th by Chiron Publications. Dr. Stein returns to the podcast on May 18th to discuss the new book, Jung’s Map of the Soul – Deeper Explorations, and the return of BTS from military enlistment as well as the release of their new album, ARIRANG.

June 2026: Paul Bishop, Ph.D.

Professor Bishop returns to the podcast to discuss the 3rd volume in his series, Jung and the Epic of Transformation. This time we delve into Nietzsche’s “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” and the Challenge of Transformation, scheduled to be released by Chiron Publications on May 25th. Our previous discussions about this series include Episode 135 on Volume 1 (Wolfram von Eschenbach’s “Parzival” and the Grail as Transformation) and Episode 152 on Volume 2 (Goethe’s “Faust” as a Text of Transformation).

June 2026: Susan E. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Dr. Schwartz returns to the podcast in June to discuss her new book, Absent Fathers, Yearning Sons: A Jungian Analysis of the Father-Son Dynamic, scheduled to be released by Routledge on May 13th. This book evolved from her 2020 release, The Absent Father Effect on Daughters: Father Desire, Father Wounds, discussed in Episode 76. Dr. Schwartz said she received many questions asking if the same concepts applied to sons and that the amount of inquiry demonstrated a lamentation for the missing and less than ideal father and son relationship.

Presentation

The C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles will host Professor Harald Atmanspacher, Ph.D., both in-person and via Zoom on Sunday, April 12th, for a presentation titled, Dual-Aspect Monism as a Mindset. Professor Atmanspacher previously joined us for Episode 116 to discuss his book Dual-Aspect Monism and the Deep Structure of Meaning, co-authored with Professor Dean Rickles. (Routledge, 2022). I will be attending via Zoom. Hope to see you there!
