Henry Abramovitch, Ph.D. is a Jungian analyst and anthropologist in Jerusalem, Israel.
Canadian by birth, he holds a Ph.D. from Yale University and a Diploma in Analytical Psychology (the degree of a Jungian analyst) from the Israel Society of Analytical Psychology.
He is professor emeritus in the Department of Medical Education at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University where he taught the “human” side of medicine and served as Director of Behavioral Science in the American Program for over 30 years.
He is founding president and a senior training analyst at the Israel Institute of Jungian Psychology in Honor of Erich Neumann, and is the former president of the Israeli Anthropological Association. He has done fieldwork on death rituals in the Malagasy Republic and in Jerusalem, and is active in the Israel Interfaith Encounter Association.
Dr. Abramovitch has served on ethics and program committees of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, and teaches and supervises Routers in their Developing Groups in Eastern Europe and Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of the war, he has led a reflection group for Ukrainian analysts on Zoom.
He is the author of The First Father Abraham: The Psychology & Culture of a Spiritual Revolutionary (2010); Brothers & Sisters: Myth & Reality (2014); Why Odysseus Came Home as a Stranger & Other Puzzling Moments in the Life of Buddha, Socrates, Jesus, Abraham, & Other Great Individuals (2020), and with Murray Stein, the plays, The Analyst & the Rabbi (2019), My Lunch with Thomas (2023), and Eranos (2023). His first novel, Panic Attacks in Pistachio: A Psychological Detective Story, was published in June by Chiron. (book links below)
