Episode 94: Nancy Swift Furlotti

Nancy Swift Furlotti, Ph.D. is a Jungian analyst and author in Aspen, Colorado.

She received a doctorate in psychology from Saybrook University and trained as a Jungian analyst at the Research & Training Centre for Depth Psychology According to C.G. Jung & Marie-Louise von Franz in Zürich, Switzerland, and at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles where she later served as president.

Dr. Swift Furlotti is a founding member and past president of the Philemon Foundation and was actively involved in the publication of Jung’s Red Book. She now serves on the board of the Kairos Film Foundation, which created the movies, Matter of Heart, The World Within, and the Remembering Jung video series.

She is a member of the C.G. Jung Institute of Colorado and the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts, and sits on the boards of Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, the Smithsonian National Asian Museum in Washington, D.C., and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

Recently, she established two endowments that focus on understanding and resolving human trauma: the Carl Gustav Jung Professorial Endowment in Analytical Psychology at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), and the Erel Shalit Carlsberg Foundation Research Fellowship in Behavioral Neuroscience at Oxford University. Her company, Recollections LLC, edits and publishes first generation Jungian’s unpublished writings, most recently Erich Neumann’s two volume manuscript, The Roots of Jewish Consciousness, which will soon be published in Hebrew and German.

She is co-editor with Dr. Erel Shalit of the book, The Dream & Its Amplification, which we’ll be giving away this week on Twitter, and contributor to several other books including A Clear & Present Danger; Turbulent Times, Creative Minds; and The Human Soul (Lost) in Transition At the Dawn of a New Era.

Along with fellow Jungian analyst Dr. James Hollis, she is co-executive producer of the new film, Soulheal, by José Enrique Pardo. It features both Dr. Swift Furlotti and Dr. Hollis discussing the wounding and healing of men. It’s now or never, they say, to achieve wholeness or face destruction. You can rent the film for 72 hours for $1.99. All of the net proceeds from Soulheal will be donated to charitable organizations whose missions align with that of the film.

This year, Dr. Swift Furlotti will be delivering the annual Fay Lecture Series at the McMillan Institute for Jungian Studies in Houston, Texas, which will also be live-streamed. The subject is her longstanding interest in Mesoamerican mythology, specifically the Quiché Maya creation myth, the Popol Vuh.

Next year, she will be speaking at the Eranos Conference, Jung’s Red Book for Our Time: Searching for Soul in the 21st Century, to be held April 28th through May 1st in Ascona, Switzerland. Other presenters include Speaking of Jung guests Murray Stein, Leonard Cruz, Lance Owens, and Frank McMillan.
