Logan Jones, Ed.D. is a retired clinical pastoral educator, editor and poet in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He holds a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Alabama, a Master of Divinity from The Divinity School at Duke University, and a doctorate in education from North Carolina State University. He is a Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, and is an ordained minister in the Moravian Church of America.
Rev. Dr. Jones worked as a hospital chaplain for 34 years and taught clergy and seminary students the art of pastoral and spiritual care in crisis situations in hospitals. He spent 25 years as Director of Pastoral Care Services at the University of North Carolina’s award-winning REX Healthcare.
He is the author of two books of poetry – No Man’s Land and Last Call – and a collection of essays and reflections on the art of pastoral supervision titled The Care of Souls. His latest book, The Best of James Hollis: Wisdom for the Inner Journey, was published by Chiron on October 1st, and it is the subject of our talk today.
This inspiring 336-page book is a collection of excerpts from the writings of world-renowned Jungian analyst and author Dr. James Hollis who also wrote the preface. The selections, chosen by Rev. Dr. Jones, are taken from Hollis’ entire oeuvre – from The Middle Passage published by Inner City Books in 1993, to Prisms published earlier this year by Chiron. Each of the 22 chapters covers a different topic. They include Jung’s concepts of anima and animus, complexes, individuation, persona, projection, and shadow, as well as the subjects of children and parents, death and loss, depression, marriage and relationships, men, religion and spirituality, and vocation.
Speaking of Jung listeners will be familiar with the writings of Dr. Hollis as he has been a guest on five of our episodes. You can learn more about his entire body of work including his 17 books, audiobooks, online video courses, films, and upcoming webinars on our special James Hollis page in the blog section.
