Marian Dunlea is a Jungian analyst and somatics practitioner in private practice in Galway, Ireland.
She holds a master’s degree in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from Trinity College Dublin, a diploma in psychosynthesis psychotherapy from the Institute of Psychosynthesis in London, and a diploma in analytical psychology from the International Association for Analytical Psychology.
For many years, she studied and worked with the late Jungian analyst Marion Woodman and her team – choreographer and dancer Mary Hamilton and voice and mask specialist Anne Skinner – on the BodySoul Rhythms Programs, completing their Leadership Training in 2003. Ms. Dunlea is a core faculty member of the Marion Woodman Foundation and is head of training of their sister organization, BodySoul Europe.
In addition to her work as a BodySoul Rhythms facilitator, she incorporates the body oriented approach of Peter Levine as a Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapist, and, as an Infant Observation Supervisor, into her practice as a Jungian analyst.
She is the creator of BodyDreaming®, which incorporates developments in neuroscience, trauma therapy, and attachment theory with Jungian psychology and the phenomenological standpoint of interconnectedness.
Ms. Dunlea has been a guest lecturer at the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich and the International School of Analytical Psychology Zürich, and was a presenter at the IAAP’s International Congress in Copenhagen in 2013. She is now slated to speak at the Jung Institute’s 75th birthday celebration in 2023.
Her book, BodyDreaming in the Treatment of Developmental Trauma, was published by Routledge in 2019. It won the Gradiva Award for Best Book from the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and was named co-winner of the International Association for Jungian Studies 2020 Best Book award. It includes a foreword written by Speaking of Jung guest Donald Kalsched, Ph.D.
