Returning to the podcast is Jungian analyst and author of Jung’s Map of the Soul, Dr. Murray Stein in Zürich, Switzerland.
He holds a Master of Divinity from Yale University and a Ph.D. in religion and psychological studies from the University of Chicago. He trained as a Jungian analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich where he earned a Diploma in Analytical Psychology (the degree of a Jungian analyst), and later went on to co-found the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago where he worked as a training analyst.
He served as president of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (the governing body of Jungian analysts) and the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP Zürich) where he currently works as a training and supervising analyst.
Dr. Stein is a very prolific author. His most recent book, Four Pillars of Jungian Psychoanalysis, was published on February 1st, and his new book, The Mystery of Transformation, will be released on July 15th.
His Collected Writings are currently being published by Chiron. The fourth volume, The Practice of Jungian Psychoanalysis, was released on March 15th. And his Map of the Soul book series for young adults, published in 2019 and 2020, includes transcripts from our episodes on the Grammy-nominated K-pop group BTS. A full list of Dr. Stein’s books, interviews, DVDs, and more can be found on Speaking of Jung’s special Murray Stein Page in the blog section.
Our previous episodes with Dr. Stein date back to 2015 when I visited him at his office in Zürich (Ep. 9). We’ve also recorded episodes on Jung’s Map of the Soul (Ep. 42), The Analyst & the Rabbi (Ep. 47), Jung’s Red Book for Our Time (Ep. 49), and nine episodes on BTS covering the topics of Jung’s concepts of the persona, shadow, ego, and psychological types, as well as BTS’ speech at the United Nations. Please visit Speaking of Jung’s special BTS Page for links to all of that content.
The interview with Dr. Stein was followed by a spirited discussion with two fellow members of the BTS ARMY: Dr. Melissa Werner and Tiffany Helton.
Melissa Werner is a Jungian analyst in private practice in Birmingham, Alabama. She holds master’s degrees in both early childhood education and community counseling, as well as a Ph.D. in child development, from the University of Alabama. In 2018, she completed her training as a Jungian analyst, earning a diploma in analytical psychology from the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich. Her thesis on the feral children of the drug epidemic is currently being prepared for publication. This summer, she will be traveling back to Zürich to lecture at the Jung Institute on trauma in the lives of the children of addicts. She will also be presenting at this year’s International IAAP Congress for Analytical Psychology in Buenos Aires on her work on death and rebirth. You can learn more about Dr. Werner in Episode 97 where we discussed our experiences at the 2021 BTS concerts in Los Angeles.
Tiffany Helton holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Phoenix. She has been part of the BTS ARMY Help Center since 2018 and currently serves as their human resources manager. You can listen to my interview with the Help Center’s CEO, Carla Postma-Slabbekoorn, in Episode Q18 to learn more about their services. Tiffany joins us today from Marietta, Georgia.
