Returning to the podcast is the author of Jung’s Map of the Soul, Jungian analyst Murray Stein in Zürich, Switzerland.

He holds a Master of Divinity from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Religion and Psychological Studies from the University of Chicago. He trained as a Jungian analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute Zürich and later co-founded the Jung Institute of Chicago where he worked as a training analyst.

Dr. Stein served as president of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, and the International School of Analytical Psychology (known as ISAP Zürich) where he is currently a training and supervising analyst.

He is the author of many books and articles, and is the co-founder and publisher emeritus of Chiron Publications. The first volume of his Collected Writings, titled Individuation, is available now. And his latest book, Men Under Construction, a series of three lectures, was published on February 1st.

In this episode, Dr. Stein discusses the new comeback trailer by BTS, titled Outro : Ego. It’s part of their forthcoming album, Map of the Soul: 7, dropping February 21st. He explains Jung’s concept of the ego and looks at the song from a Jungian perspective. Dr. Stein also shares his thoughts on the first single from the album, titled Black Swan, and revisits the comeback trailer released last month, Interlude : Shadow. You can hear his full analysis of that in Episode 53.

Dr. Stein is no stranger to this podcast. We recorded our first episode together when I visited his office in Zürich in 2015. You can hear that conversation in Episode 9. We then reconnected last spring for Episode 42 on Jung’s Map of the Soul, Episode 44 on BTS’s Map of the Soul: Persona, Episode 47 on The Analyst and the Rabbi, and Episode 49 on Jung’s Red Book for Our Time.

This interview was recorded on Friday, February 7, 2020. It’s 01:03:40 long and 59.7 MB. You can listen to it right here in your browser or download it directly to your computer. This episode is also available on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play, TuneIn, Spotify, and iHeartRadio. And it’s now available on our YouTube channel.

You can also listen to this podcast on your Amazon Echo device. Simply say, “Alexa, play Speaking of Jung on Apple Podcasts (or, on TuneIn).” Be sure to pronounce Jung with a hard J.
